Kazakhstan to Introduce New Profession — “White Hackers” for Energy Sector

Дата публикации

As part of the Year of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, a professional standard “Digitalization and Application of AI in Energy” is being developed. It provides for new professions, including Smart Grid designers, AI implementation engineers, and cybersecurity specialists (“white hackers”).

At the Ministry of Energy, a meeting of the Sectoral Council on electricity and heat power was held. Representatives of government agencies, industry associations, and major companies — KEGOC, Samruk‑Energo, CAEC, SEVKAZENERGO, Kazakhmys Energy, as well as associations KAZENERGY and Atameken — took part.

The Council noted that the new professions are based on Kazakhstan’s Atlas of New Professions and Competencies. They should form the foundation of educational programs and ensure training for the digital transformation of the sector.

Special attention is given to the development of Smart Grids. In the next 5–10 years, part of dispatching functions will be transferred to intelligent management systems, requiring knowledge not only in energy but also in AI.

Smart Grid development is recognized as a key task, and specialists must possess digitalization competencies to strengthen the resilience and efficiency of energy systems.

In 2025, a new profession card “Smart Manager” was already developed, aimed at introducing intelligent technologies and improving energy efficiency. This became the first step toward updating HR policy.

Synchronization with training systems in universities and colleges will allow faster introduction of new standards and preparation of specialists for real market needs.

Kazakhstan’s energy sector is developing in line with global trends — digitalization, automation, and the introduction of intelligent solutions. In this context, new professions are expected to become part of the transformation.
