In Kazakhstan, the capabilities of automatic traffic violation detection will be expanded, reports Polisia.kz. Starting March 12, amendments to Article 31 of the Administrative Code will come into force.
Police clarified that law enforcement is not introducing new prohibitions, but only expanding the technical means of recording already existing violations.
Now cameras will be able to detect not only speeding, running a red light, and other familiar violations, but also those that do not require special measurements. For example, using a phone while driving and not wearing a seatbelt.
The system will also be able to automatically identify expired technical inspections, lack of insurance, and other violations through integration with state databases.
For this, data from government databases integrated with the Unified Register of Administrative Proceedings (ERAP) will be used.
In addition, for a number of articles, cameras will be able to automatically issue warnings without the participation of an inspector. This applies, for example, to creating traffic jams or improper use of headlights.
Previously, six types of violations were recorded automatically: speeding, running a red light, failure to comply with traffic signs and markings, improper stopping or parking, violation of overtaking and road positioning rules, and failure to yield to pedestrians.
Other violations were detected only with the direct involvement of police officers. Law enforcement assured that tracking pedestrians with cameras is not envisaged.
