Satellite Internet from a British company has appeared in the village of Algabas, the press service of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan reports, noting that the initiative was implemented within the framework of the national project "Affordable Internet".

One of the key areas of the project is connecting remote and sparsely populated villages to the Internet. It is impractical to install fiber-optic lines or mobile stations in such settlements.

The MCRIAP emphasizes that the use of this technology allows for high-speed and stable Internet even where other solutions are impossible.

It is planned to connect 504 villages to the Internet via non-geostationary satellite systems (NGSO). Of these, 176 are already connected via KazSat satellites, and another 328 will be connected via the OneWeb system. The launch in the village of Algabas was one of the first steps in this direction.

Now residents will be able to use all the possibilities of digital services: online education, electronic government services and free communication with loved ones, according to a press release from the Ministry of Digital Development.

Earlier it was reported that the Ministry of Digital Development and JSC Kazakhtelecom signed an investment agreement to connect more than 3,000 rural settlements to the Internet. The construction of the fiber-optic communication line will be completed by the end of 2026 (a year ahead of schedule), and remote areas will be provided with satellite communication channels by 2027.

Which companies providing satellite Internet services have started or are planning to start working in Kazakhstan in 2025-2027:

- OneWeb (UK) — January 2025
- Starlink (US) — August 2025
- SpaceX / SpaceSail (CH) — 2027
- Amazon Kuiper (US) — 2027

The total investment in the area will amount to 38.6 billion tenge.
