Recently, major Kazakhstani registrars notified clients that from June 15, 2025, registration and renewal of domain names in the .ҚАЗ, .KZ, .COM.KZ and .ORG.KZ zones will almost double.

The changes are due to the decision of the Kazakhstan Network Information Center (KazNIC), which changes the pricing model, tying tariffs to the monthly calculation indicator (MCI). For 2025, it is 3,932 tenge.

According to the new tariffs, the cost of supporting a domain name for accredited registrars will be 1 MCI per year, and the recommended retail price for end users is 3 MCI.

This means that for an ordinary client the new price will be approximately 11,796 tenge, which is almost twice as high as the current prices set for domains in the specified zones.

The price increase is due to the need to update the technical infrastructure, rising maintenance costs, and a significant increase in the dollar exchange rate over the past 10 years.

According to the head of KazNIC Pavel Gusev, linking tariffs to the MCI will allow automatic adjustment of prices depending on inflation processes and will ensure stable operation of the address space.

It should be noted that a similar price increase already took place ten years ago and ended in litigation and penalties for the management organization.

Large digital businesses, for which web portals are an important sales channel, are unlikely to feel the difference, but small and medium businesses, as well as people who earn money by registering domain names, may face additional costs.

Research by the Association of Registries of the Asia-Pacific Region shows that the cost of registry services in Kazakhstan is in the lowest price segment compared to similar markets in other countries.

One of the major registrars, "Internet Company PS", has already notified clients that the new retail price for domain registration will be about 8,820 tenge including VAT, which indicates a systematic increase in tariffs.

Experts believe that a sharp increase in cost may slow down the growth of the Kazakhstani segment of the Internet, but at the same time it will contribute to updating the infrastructure and improving network security.
