Law enforcement and online platforms join forces to combat fraud

Дата публикации

As part of the “Law and Order” concept, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Almaty Region Prosecutor Berik Adamov with representatives of major online platforms (Krisha.kz, Kolesa.kz, Olx.kz) to discuss combating internet fraud.

This year, the number of registered fraud cases related to service listings and marketplace trading increased by 35% (from 109 to 150), representing almost half of all reported online fraud incidents.

A major concern is the falsification of offers and misleading users, leading to financial losses and damage to the reputation of online platforms.

During the meeting, issues of internet security were discussed, and measures were proposed to enhance cybersecurity for e-commerce platforms. A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed, aimed at creating joint mechanisms to prevent online fraud.

Participants discussed user awareness campaigns on common fraud methods, stricter seller verification using biometric data and ID checks, introduction of user rating systems, and a feedback mechanism. These steps aim to improve protection of citizens from cybercriminals.

Platform representatives supported the proposed measures and expressed willingness to actively cooperate with law enforcement to respond to emerging threats and boost user trust in e-commerce platforms.

A plan was also discussed to monitor the effectiveness of these measures and explore additional initiatives to strengthen user protection.

The growing threat of fraud, cyberattacks, and other online violations was previously addressed in the new Public Order Concept developed by the Kazakh government.

A significant focus is also placed on digital literacy efforts via popular platforms and messengers.
