The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan announced the launch of the educational program AI-Sana, aimed at developing skills in working with artificial intelligence.

The program is designed for students, master's and doctoral students and is implemented with the participation of international experts based on original courses used in leading universities around the world.

The name AI-Sana combines the English Artificial Intelligence and the Kazakh Sana — mind, thinking. The initiative focuses on the applied use of AI in economics and entrepreneurship.

A total of 650 thousand people will undergo training. An additional 100 thousand will undergo training in AI and technological entrepreneurship modules, and another 60 thousand will undergo advanced programs.

AI-Sana also aims to create 1,500 DeepTech startups, of which 50 should be ready to enter international markets.

The program includes training teachers to ensure a sustainable educational process without the constant involvement of foreign specialists.

The initiative is funded by 3.499 billion tenge. The funds are used to develop educational materials, conduct courses, and support startups.

The program should facilitate the introduction of AI into key sectors of the economy and the transformation of universities into research centers.

AI-Sana was presented to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan in December 2024. At that time, Minister Sayasat Nurbek called it the basis for training personnel in the field of AI.

The leading role in the development was played by Paul Kim, CTO of the Stanford Graduate School of Education. Experts from Imperial College and King’s College were also involved.

The initiative is seen as one of the steps towards the formation of an ecosystem of technological entrepreneurship and digital transformation in Kazakhstan.
