According to the city’s Department of Education, the transition will take place in the third quarter of the 2025–2026 academic year.
“This is a fully Kazakhstani development with a free mobile application and servers located in Kazakhstan, which guarantees the security and confidentiality of user data and strictly complies with national legislation,” the press release states.
Media note that the service is free: parents, students, and teachers do not pay for using the electronic journal or mobile app. This was one of the decisive factors in choosing a single platform for city schools.
Authorities claim that before introducing the system citywide, it was tested in 15 schools in Almaty.
The transition to the new system is planned during the winter holidays.
What will change for users
The department reported that parents and students will have access to a mobile app with key information:
-
schedules and homework;
-
attendance records;
-
academic grades.
The ecosystem for schools also includes:
-
an administration system,
-
educational and methodological content,
-
performance monitoring,
-
functions for remote lessons and interactive classes.
Currently, BilimClass is used by 2.5 million students and 350,000 teachers across 11 regions of Kazakhstan — from Almaty and Akmola to Turkestan, Kyzylorda, and North Kazakhstan.
The platform is developed by the Kazakhstani IT holding Bilim Group, whose ecosystem includes projects such as BilimLand, OnlineMektep, BilimKids, iTest, Kitap.kz, and SmartNation.
In December last year, the anonymous Telegram channel “Vyhod k Moryu” reported a data leak from Kundelik, containing information about Kazakhstani schoolchildren. The company did not confirm the incident.
However, later that month, Deputy Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Doszhan Musaliev confirmed the leak. According to him, the company was fined.
Details on the level of BilimClass’s protection against cyberattacks or similar leaks have not been disclosed.
