Measures for the protection of personal data and information security are actively developing in Kazakhstan. The Information Security Committee of the International Center for Information Security and Information Protection of the Republic of Kazakhstan notes that Kazakhstanis send about 600 thousand requests through the Personal Data Access Control Service (KDP) daily, and during periods of peak demand this figure reaches one million.
The KDP system provides citizens with the opportunity to control access to their personal data, and currently 138 information systems are connected to the service, 59 of which belong to private companies.
Various tools are used in the field of security of the Kazakhstani segment of the Internet. One of them is the WebTotem service, which regularly scans 188,098 domains to identify vulnerabilities.
Thanks to independent experts, more than 2,400 vulnerabilities have been identified through the BugBounty platform, which helps strengthen cybersecurity in the country.
Since the beginning of 2024, 11 unscheduled inspections have been conducted and 23 administrative cases have been initiated for violating the requirements of legislation in the field of personal data.
In June 2024, the list of critically important information and communication infrastructure facilities was updated, and 572 facilities were included.
Particular attention is paid to raising public awareness of cyber threats. Chairman of the ICC Ruslan Abdikalikov noted that the level of public awareness in 2023 reached 80.4%, which is higher than the previous year (77.4%).
The MCRIAP plans to create a platform to raise public servants' awareness of cyber threats.
This is due to the fact that public servants have access to a large amount of official information and personal data, and their accounts are a potential target for intruders.
